Dr. Sabah Al-Mukhaizeem, Kuwait's Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, affirmed on Sunday that achieving a balanced energy mix with 50% renewable electricity by 2050 is a strategic priority for the State of Kuwait.
The announcement came during his opening speech at the Kuwait Sustainable Energy Conference and Exhibition, a three-day event held under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, reinforcing Kuwait's commitment to sustainable development and its role in supporting regional and global efforts toward efficient and sustainable energy systems.
Ambitious Projects: Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized that Kuwait’s renewable energy transition is backed by well-studied plans and ambitious projects, aligning with international commitments and sustainable development goals.
Global Necessity: "Given today’s accelerating environmental and economic challenges, investing in renewable energy and efficiency is no longer just a technical choice—it’s a modern development imperative and a responsibility toward future generations," he stated.
Regional & International Partnerships: Kuwait continues to develop clean energy projects, diversify energy sources, and strengthen cross-border collaborations to enhance grid stability and long-term sustainability.
Hosting the RCREEE Presidency: The Minister highlighted Kuwait’s pride in chairing the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) during the conference, reflecting its pioneering role in the energy transition.
Engineer Ahmad Al-Dosari, RCREEE’s Board Chairman, noted that the conference serves as a critical platform for regional dialogue on energy’s future, showcasing Kuwait’s strategic commitment to diversifying its energy mix.
Dr. Bahjat Abu Al-Nasr (Arab League) praised the conference as a regional hub for policymakers and experts to discuss renewable energy innovations.
Dr. Tokeild Bech (EU Deputy Ambassador) emphasized EU-Kuwait partnerships in green energy, noting Europe’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Dr. Grammenos Mastrojeni (Union for the Mediterranean) stressed that climate change requires collective action, particularly in the Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
