The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) has implemented its "Water Provision" project to supply safe drinking water to 50,000 affected and displaced families in Gaza across shelters and residential areas, at a cost exceeding $68,000 USD.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, the organization explained that the project aims to alleviate the daily suffering of displaced families in Gaza amid the current humanitarian crisis. The initiative involves daily water distribution through large tankers that transport desalinated water from treatment plants to over 200 camps and residential communities, based on each area's daily needs.
"This project responds to one of the most urgent and vital needs at a time when Gazans face severe water shortages and the collapse of water infrastructure," the statement added. "Displaced people crowded in shelters are forced to wait in line for hours to fill water gallons that barely meet their daily needs."
The IICO emphasized that the project also seeks to improve daily living conditions for both displaced persons and returning residents by securing clean water as a fundamental human right. This initiative plays a critical role in safeguarding lives and health, particularly for women, children, and the elderly.
