Kuwait City, 14 June – Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi on Saturday reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to developing the national blood transfusion system through infrastructure modernization, training of medical and technical staff, and expanding the donor base.
Speaking at the launch of a blood donation campaign for the Indian community marking World Blood Donor Day at the Adan Blood Transfusion Center, Dr. Al-Awadi stated:
"We believe blood donation is not just a medical procedure, but a noble expression of belonging and compassion – an indicator of societal maturity and solidarity in facing health challenges."
The minister noted that June 14 is designated annually to honor voluntary donors who help save lives and improve patient health. The campaign, organized by the Indian Doctors Forum in Kuwait with the Indian Ambassador's participation, highlights this humanitarian act and promotes blood donation as a noble social responsibility.
"This year's theme 'Donate Blood, Give Hope – Through Our Blood We Save Lives' emphasizes how donations revive lives and strengthen community solidarity," he added, praising the Blood Bank's achievements: over 90,000 donors, 150,000 blood units, and 190,000 blood products processed last year.
Indian Ambassador Praises Bilateral Cooperation
Indian Ambassador Dr. Adarsh Swaika commended the health minister's support for humanitarian causes and health cooperation between both nations:
"Our blood donation campaign with the Indian Doctors Forum reinforces this life-saving practice's value. The Indian community – among Kuwait's largest – remains committed to meaningful contributions through blood donation, beach cleanups, and greening initiatives."
Medical Officials Highlight Campaign Impact
Acting Director of Blood Transfusion Services Dr. Hanan Al-Awadi noted this marks the second consecutive year of the embassy-organized campaign, expecting 200 donors.
*"We appreciate Indian donors and all 75+ nationalities in Kuwait who regularly donate, believing in its life-saving importance. These campaigns bolster our strategic blood reserves – hospitals constantly need donations while patients require care."*
The minister concluded by thanking all donors and volunteers, affirming Kuwait's leadership in humanitarian and health initiatives.
