Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares held phone conversations on Saturday with his counterparts in the Middle East to discuss the latest developments following the recent military escalation in the region.
In a statement, the Spanish Foreign Ministry said Albares spoke with officials from Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan, emphasizing the need to de-escalate tensions, halt the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and reinforce commitment to a lasting political solution.
During his call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Albares stressed the urgent need to stop the violence and reiterated Spain’s commitment to a secure and prosperous Middle East based on mutual respect and compliance with international law.
In his discussion with Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Mustafa, Albares addressed the situation in Gaza, highlighting the UN General Assembly resolution adopted two days prior, which calls for an immediate ceasefire and reaffirms the international commitment to the two-state solution as the only viable path to peace.
Speaking with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Albares expressed Spain’s appreciation for Egypt’s mediation efforts to end the war in Gaza and advance the two-state solution.
With Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, Albares shared concerns over regional instability, urging all parties to exercise restraint while reaffirming Spain’s strong support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity.
In his conversation with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, both sides agreed on the need to unite efforts to contain violence and work toward a just peace based on recognition of a Palestinian state and the two-state solution.
The statement emphasized Spain’s continued diplomatic efforts in bilateral and multilateral forums to contribute to lasting peace in the Middle East, guided by the principles of dialogue, international legitimacy, and respect for human rights.
