French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian welcomed on Monday the decisions announced by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the war in Ukraine, which included issuing a final 50-day ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease fire, under the threat of imposing 100% tariffs on Russia and its trading partners.
In a tweet posted on his official account on X (formerly Twitter), Le Drian stated that the U.S. announcement of providing Ukraine with air defense systems, along with anticipated European sanctions, represents increasing international pressure that could force Moscow to end its illegal and deadly war of aggression.
The French minister called for the international community to unite in supporting these decisive measures, stressing that their goal is to halt military escalation and end the humanitarian suffering caused by the ongoing conflict.
Le Drian’s remarks come at a time when the international stage is witnessing intense diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution to the war, now in its third year, amid growing calls to resume negotiations and cease hostilities.
