The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has officially announced the new wireless charging standard under the name Qi2 25W, the marketing name for Qi v2.2.1 that supports charging up to 25W, an increase of nearly 70% compared to the previous generation that was limited to 15W.

Flagship Android phones are expected to soon join the Qi2 ecosystem for the first time, along with iPhones that already support this standard.

Fourteen transceivers have passed official certification exams over the past week, while hundreds more are preparing to enter a phase.
