In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Macron noted that he held a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, as well as review the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza.
He stressed that "the continued blockade of aid and the expansion of Israeli military operations risk causing famine and forced displacement of civilians, which is intolerable."
Macron added that they discussed supporting international efforts to achieve a ceasefire, secure the release of hostages, and ensure the immediate and large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid. He emphasized that both leaders reaffirmed the importance of launching a political process leading to "the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in peace."
In this context, Macron described the deaths of civilians—especially children—from starvation and lack of medical care as "unacceptable" and called for concrete action at the conference scheduled for July 28-29 in New York, which he sees as an opportunity to establish a comprehensive humanitarian and political roadmap.
He also noted that Egypt, alongside the United Kingdom, co-chairs the working group on the reconstruction of Gaza and the West Bank, praising Cairo’s pivotal role in this regard.
Macron clarified that France will continue coordinating with international partners during the upcoming UN General Assembly meetings in September, as Paris pushes for international recognition of a Palestinian state as part of a lasting and comprehensive solution to the conflict.
