Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed on Wednesday the developments in the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Iranian issue, and the ongoing Gulf-British negotiations on a free trade agreement.
The British Prime Minister's Office stated in a release that the discussions took place during a meeting at 10 Downing Street in London. Both sides emphasized the urgent need to end the starvation and suffering endured by Palestinians in Gaza.
They reiterated calls for the immediate delivery of large-scale humanitarian aid to Gaza's population. The British Prime Minister affirmed the UK’s support for Jordanian airdrop operations to swiftly deliver aid to the most vulnerable groups in Gaza.
The statement noted that Prime Minister Starmer briefed Sultan Haitham on his recent discussions with world leaders over the past two days regarding the situation in Gaza and the broader Palestinian issue.
The talks concluded with an agreement on the importance of establishing a long-term peace plan, including a pathway to recognizing a Palestinian state.
Regarding Iran, the statement conveyed the British Prime Minister’s gratitude to the Sultan of Oman for the Sultanate’s ongoing efforts to reach a diplomatic solution that avoids renewed conflict and ensures regional peace and security.
On the UK-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) trade negotiations, Starmer highlighted the vast potential this trade agreement would offer the British economy and businesses.
Both sides agreed to enhance UK-Oman cooperation in key areas such as energy, technology, defense, and security.
