Elon Musk confirms SpaceX's plans to establish data centers in orbit..

As AI continues to drive global demand for computing infrastructure, some of the biggest names in the tech world are starting to look for solutions that go beyond the boundaries of the earth. The idea of creating data centers in space, once a science fiction, is now gaining real momentum.

After recent public interest from Jeff Bezos (Amazon) and Eric Schmidt (former CEO of Google), Elon Musk has officially confirmed that SpaceX is currently exploring the possibility of creating orbital data centers based on the new generation of Starlink V3 satellites.Via social media, Musk explained that SpaceX intends to go in this direction, noting that expanding the range of Starlink V3 satellites with high-speed laser links could make the idea feasible.

SpaceX will do so, Musk writes, in an apparent reference to his intention to turn Starlink's global web into the backbone of orbital cloud computing infrastructure.

The idea sounds appealing for a number of reasons: solar energy sources in space are plentiful and free, and they eliminate the need to consume land or cause environmental damage such as those that accompany terrestrial data centers.
