Google has announced a new suite of AI-powered features for its Google TV smart TV platform, aiming to reshape the home viewing experience and make it more interactive and intelligent. This update includes the addition of a YouTube Shorts feed directly to the home screen, providing quicker access to entertainment content.
At the heart of this update is Gemini's capabilities, with a "Create" button within the Gemini tab that allows users to experiment with generative AI tools directly on their TVs, such as Nano Banana and Veo. Google has begun rolling out these features to Gemini-enabled TCL TVs in the US, with support to be expanded to other devices later.
The Nano Banana tool allows users to create and edit photos using simple voice commands. Change clothes or backgrounds, or create entirely new scenes, quickly and easily. Google describes this experience as a fun activity that can be shared in the living room with family and friends.
