An unofficial app revives Samsung Messages with full support for RCS messages..

Despite Samsung discontinuing support for its Messages app, at least in the US, an independent developer has decided to revive the experience with a new app offering a similar interface and full RCS messaging support. Developer OzarksMade has launched an app called Messages, designed to closely mimic the Samsung Messages interface, while offering two usage options. The first option, called Standalone Mode, is limited to sending and receiving SMS and MMS messages, while the second option, Companion Mode, offers full support for RCS messaging. Because third-party app developers cannot directly access RCS networks due to system restrictions, Companion Mode relies on the pre-installed Google Messages app to run in the background as the messaging engine. The developer explained that the original chat features in Samsung Messages have relied for the past seven years on the Google Jibe architecture, meaning that messages will follow the same path, but through an interface closer to what Galaxy phone users are used to.
