Google has begun expanding its "Know before you go" feature in Google Maps, reaching more users beyond its initial launch area. This move reinforces the company's reliance on Gemini to transform maps into an intelligent assistant capable of providing concise information about places before visiting them. Google
first unveiled the feature in November 2025, initially rolling it out in the United States on both Android and iOS, before finally making it available to users in additional markets and languages.
What do you know before you go?
This feature relies on the Gemini AI model to analyze available information about a place from multiple sources, including visitor reviews and experiences, content from platforms like Instagram and TikTok, as well as external websites and articles. It then extracts the most relevant details a user might need and presents them as quick, concise tips before their visit.
For example, when searching for a restaurant or cafe, users might see information about popular dishes and drinks, or tips related to peak times, ordering and reservation methods, and parking.
Instead of reading dozens of reviews to find specific information, the AI analyzes the content and extracts the most frequently asked questions that could be helpful in deciding whether to visit.
This feature isn't limited to restaurants and cafes; the tips can vary depending on the type of establishment, including information related to entry, reservations, access, and other details a visitor might need.
