The presence of AI agents is far removed from the "ask and get an answer" approach..

The next phase will witness a gradual shift from a "ask AI and get an answer" model to AI agents capable of performing multiple tasks. This transformation will reshape how institutions interact with digital systems, as Dr. Ahmed Al-Hussaini, Director of the Naseej Innovation Lab, told Al-Eqtisadiah.


Al-Hussaini explained that, in an educational institution, for example, an intelligent agent can gather information from multiple sources, analyze it, and suggest an action, or execute a series of steps after obtaining the necessary permissions. However, he emphasized that increasing the agents' execution capabilities raises the importance of governance, including identity and permissions management, data protection, registration and auditing, and establishing clear policies that define what AI can and cannot do.



An AI agent is a digital system capable of performing multiple tasks semi-autonomously. It analyzes data, makes decisions, and interacts with users to achieve specific goals. Relying on machine learning and natural language processing technologies, the agent is an effective tool in sectors such as business, education, services, and media, while human oversight remains essential.


Al-Hussaini explained that the future of enterprise systems will not necessarily involve replacing existing systems, but rather adding a more intelligent layer on top. This layer will be capable of understanding user intent and assisting them in accessing data and executing actions, thus making systems more interconnected and user-friendly.


Al-Hussaini stated that the challenge in AI is no longer simply accessing the technology, but rather transforming it into tangible products that achieve measurable economic and operational impact.


He clarified that the innovation economy means that the value of research does not end with the publication of a scientific paper or the construction of a prototype. Instead, knowledge is transferred through a chain that begins with research and experimentation, then evaluation and verification, culminating in a product or service that can be used and expanded.


According to Al-Hussaini, the economic impact of innovation can manifest as developing a new product, improving an existing one, reducing operating costs, enhancing user efficiency, or opening up a new market and source of income. He believes that the transition from knowledge to an economic asset is what makes innovation an integral part of the economy, rather than a separate activity.
