The preparatory senior officials' meeting for the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers opened today, Sunday, at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, with the participation of the State of Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti delegation is headed by:
Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations Affairs (Minister Plenipotentiary)
Members include:
The Consul General of Kuwait in Jeddah
Yousef Al-Tunaib, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the OIC
Turki Al-Daihani, Counselor at Kuwait’s Mission to the OIC
Jamal Al-Otaibi, Diplomatic Attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ International Organizations Department
OIC Secretary-General Hussein Taha addressed key challenges facing the Muslim world, including:
The Palestinian issue, exacerbated by Israeli aggression in Gaza and other occupied territories
The need for sustained efforts to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state
Ongoing OIC efforts on Afghanistan and Jammu and Kashmir
He reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to:
✔ Combating terrorism, extremism, and Islamophobia
✔ Promoting interfaith dialogue
✔ Strengthening solidarity with the Sahel and Lake Chad regions to support peace, security, and development
Taha expressed gratitude to:
Saudi Arabia for its unwavering support to the OIC
Cameroon for its leadership during the 50th session
Turkey, which will chair the 51st session, wishing it success
He also welcomed Syria’s delegation and urged member states to assist Syria in achieving its people’s aspirations.
The preparatory meeting concludes on Tuesday, ahead of the 51st OIC Council of Foreign Ministers scheduled for Istanbul, Turkey, in June 2024.
