The 24th edition of the Arab Athletics Championship kicked off this Wednesday evening at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Complex Stadium in Oran, western Algeria, with the participation of 160 male and female athletes from 12 countries, including Kuwait.
The opening ceremony of this sporting event, which runs until May 4, was attended by:
Abderrahmane Hammad, President of the Algerian Olympic Committee,
Djamel Bellioued, representative of the Ministry of Youth,
Ali Al-Sheikhi, President of the Arab Athletics Federation,
Yacine Louail, President of the Algerian Athletics Federation,
Samir Chebbani, Governor of Oran.
The championship features 160 athletes (men and women) from:
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Djibouti, Palestine, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, and host country Algeria.
Men’s events: 23 disciplines
Women’s events: 21 disciplines
All events will be held at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Stadium, except for the half-marathon, which will take place on Friday through the streets of Bir El Djir municipality, supervised by 80 referees.
Yacine Louail, President of the Algerian Athletics Federation and head of the organizing committee, stated in previous media remarks:
"Oran was selected to host this event due to its experience in organizing major international competitions, such as the Mediterranean Games and the Arab Games."
Taher Reguig, Technical Delegate of the Arab Athletics Federation, confirmed:
"The championship is officially registered in the World Athletics calendar, meaning top-performing athletes will earn ranking points that could qualify them for the upcoming World Championships."
