Coalition says projectile fell near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam

A projectile fell in the vicinity of King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, in eastern Saudi Arabia, according to the spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen.

Turki al-Maliki made the announcement late Sunday in a brief post on X, writing: "A projectile fell in the vicinity of King Fahd International Airport in Dammam." The post gave no further details.

The statement came hours after Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said on Saturday evening that operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh had been suspended following "attacks" that resulted in "a number of injuries."

On Friday, the authority said King Khalid airport had been hit by two attacks on Thursday, the first targeting the airport's facilities and the second a Saudi Arabian Airlines aircraft. Three citizens were killed and several others were injured.

The Houthis announced on Thursday that they had launched a new wave of attacks targeting two civilian airports, in Riyadh and in Najran, near Saudi Arabia's southern border with Yemen, as well as King Khalid Air Base, which belongs to the Saudi Air Force.

The Iran-backed group claimed the attacks were carried out with cruise and ballistic missiles, and that they caused damage and disrupted air traffic.
