Saudi Arabia aims to lift oil export capacity to about 10 million barrels a day

Saudi Arabia is aiming to raise its oil export capacity to around 10 million barrels per day within two to three years. The plan relies on developing the East-West pipeline and strengthening the Kingdom's infrastructure, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said.

The minister was speaking at the opening of the 25th World Petroleum Congress in Riyadh. He said the Kingdom could add 1.2 million barrels per day to its export capacity within seven to eight weeks by temporarily converting a gas pipeline to carry crude.

The remarks come as oil prices remain elevated. Brent crude, the global benchmark, rose 2.1 percent on Monday to $106.95 a barrel. Prices have swung between $96 and roughly $110 over the past month amid uncertainty over the US war with Iran and its continuing impact on global energy supplies and inflation.

On the sidelines of the congress, as part of Riyadh Energy Week, the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity held its 16th session under Saudi chairmanship. Ministers, officials and representatives of relevant Arab bodies took part. The council reviewed progress on the common Arab electricity market and a pilot energy-exchange project between Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The agenda also covered renewable energy, energy efficiency, cooperation on clean hydrogen, and the sharing of expertise on district cooling economics and technologies. The discussions form part of a broader push to deepen electricity integration among Arab states.
